What can you expect during our time together?

Starting your counseling journey can seem frightening, but you are in a safe space.

First and foremost, our space is nonjudgmental. I take a relaxed, person-centered approach, and want to get to know you. My goal is to build a trusting relationship, where you feel comfortable sharing your story, exploring your thoughts and feelings, and establishing goals.

During our first session

We’ll go over informed consent. This is to ensure you understand what confidentiality means within a counseling relationship. Then I’ll share a little bit about my background, and ask some general background questions (age, gender identity, education, marital status, employment, etc.). This is all part of the getting to know you process, which also includes knowing what prompted you to want to come to counseling.

Sessions following the initial session are primarily based on what you want to share. Often I’ll ask open ended questions because this is your journey within which includes self reflection and examining your thoughts and feelings. And yes, sometimes that includes some homework for between sessions.

Sessions are 45 minutes and can be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions depending on what is needed.

There is no timer that will go off when we reach our time. We will just begin to wrap up our conversation at that time and discuss scheduling our next appointment.
